Helping out at a primary school. If anyone recognizes it, fine, but I won’t name it here.

I’ll be going every saturday to teach the kids (p2 to 5) diabolo tricks! We’ve taught up to … The grind. Yah, so far they’ve learnt how to spin the diabolo, to let it spin on its own for 20 counts, to grind … yeah. But they’re very enthusiastic and disciplined! For 1.5 hours none of them gave up / sat down, and that’s wonderful effort put in by these students!

Looking forward to a next session with them! Maybe we’ll be teaching new tricks to the quicker ones next time!

diabolo II

Erm, this was…saturday, 26 Sept. Aka very recent performance at my own church. Song: Crazy frog XD Almost identical to the school’s teachers’ day version, but since there are two of us, we had to change a few things…and my mom had extra comments too.

What is Diabolo? Er. It’s an art, a sport, an acrobatic activity, pretty much flexible. (Not an exercise? I’ll have you spin it for an hour…if your arms survive the torture you’re good. Mom has amazing biceps from that little thing) It’s that axle thing, comes in many sizes and colours, as well as different mechanisms. Use a string to spin it (I think they have some that uses the body to spin it), VOILA, you can start doing tricks from there!

I believe this originated from China, with a long history, then went to the Western countries (vague, I know). More info can be found online. It started as this bamboo axle that makes a whistling sound. Now we have plastic / some synthesized rubbery material that makes it more durable.

Yeah well, that’s something I devote quite a bit of my time into.

Very fun, go buy one. Just don’t buy those that are too small (unless you plan to venture into other tricks), since small ones are kinda hard to keep spinning when doing tricks.
